VIENNA, WV – Influential, passionate, and caring are just a few of the words Ohio Valley University students use when describing OVU Bible professor Dr. Bruce Terry.

It is because of those qualities, as well as his exceptional ability to teach, that OVU students recently honored Dr. Terry with the 2006-07 Professor of the Year Award.

"Dr. Terry is deeply passionate about his work, loves the Lord and serves Him through his excellent teaching,” Stephanie Burkett, a freshman psychology major from Ringold, Pennsylvania, said. “He is always excited and enthusiastic about teaching the Word, while still being professional and taking the time to care for each students questions and concerns."

"Dr. Terry is the most caring teacher I have met yet at OVU. His door is always open if you need to talk to him. He is never too busy to answer someone's questions," Scott McFarland, a freshman Bible major from Westminster, Maryland, said.

Terry has been a professor in Bible at OVU since 1998 and previously won the OVU Professor of the Year Award in 2003-2004. He holds a master of divinity degree and a master of biblical studies degree from Abilene Christian University. He has also earned a Ph.D. in humanities from the University of Texas at Arlington with a major in linguistics and a minor in anthropology.

A well published author of biblical articles and booklets, Terry serves as a regular keynote speaker among Churches of Christ conferences. After serving in the ministry for more than 15 years, Terry began his teaching career in 1990. He and his wife Barbara are the proud parents of three grown children. They have two grandsons and two granddaughters.

The OVU Student National Education Association (SNEA) annually organizes the award’s nomination process and gathers student essay submissions identifying why a particular professor deserves to be recognized. A student committee reviews the nominations and submits the top names to the academic provost who approves the award’s recipient.
